Full speed ahead for Dinagyang Festival 2014

The 2014 Dinagyang Festival will push through, declared Iloilo City Tourism Officer Ben Jimena, notwithstanding the super typhoon “Yolanda” disaster.

“Five major sponsors already committed to help us,” he revealed.

Jimena did not name them but said these are three big telecommunications companies, a soft drink company and a real estate firm.

The city government will be spending around P15 million for the festivity of which P300,000 will go to each participating tribe.

As of press time, 11 tribes signified their participation.

Jimena expects more to join.

He also said several side activities are being lined up like the lighting of Central Philippine University, fireworks display and cheer group contest.

Dinagyang is Iloilo’s world-famous festival of painted warriors dancing to the beat of drums.

Performances reflect the rich culture and heritage of the Ilonggos.
