Iloilo's Dinagyang Festival tribe ready to perform in Guam

The tribe of Iloilo’s pride, the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival, is now ready to perform in Guam even as they are still waiting for their approved visa, according to City Tourism and Development Officer (CTDO) Benito Jimena.

Jimena said that the city’s 76-member contingent is expected to leave on July 18 to perform during the Guam Liberation Day slated July 21. They are still waiting for the final itinerary that will be furnished by the organizer.

The trip is supported by the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) headed by Ramon Cua Locsin, Iloilo City Government, Mayors' Council of Guam and the Ilonggo International.

The festival tribe’s Guam trip is in response to an invitation that is just one of the many from various Filipino communities abroad.

In 2011, the Dinagyang tribe was a crowd drawer when it performed during the celebration of the 113th Philippines Independence Day in New York City.

Last April, the festival also performed during the Board of Governors' Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila just weeks after it was declared champion in the Aliwan Fiesta. The Aliwan Fiesta is an annual competition of various festivals from around the Philippines. (PNA)
