Masskara, Ati-atihan to join Dinagyang’s Kasadyahan Festival 2012

Two of the region’s best festivals will be joining the Kasadyahan contest of the 2012 Dinagyang Festival as non-competing groups.

Dr. Eden Deriada, chair of the Kasadyahan contest said that in addition to the seven competing groups, four contingents opted to participate as non-competing namely the Masskara Festival of Bacolod City, Ati-Atihan of Aklan, Kahilwayan Festival of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo and St. Therese College based in this city.

The Masskara Festival is a Bacolodnon’s way of expressing their gratefulness for all the abundant blessings that they received.

The Ati-atihan on the other hand is dubbed as the mother of all festivals in the country.

The Kahilwayan Festival showcases the struggles of the people of Sta.Barbara to be freed from the bondage of oppressive Spaniards.

Meantime, those that that will perform as competing groups are the El Cinco de Noviembre and Kansilay all from Negros Occidental; Sinadya sa Halaran of Roxas City, Capiz; Salakayan of Miagao and Montogawe of Mina all in Iloilo province and Sinulog and Palayag of Guimaras.

Deriada added that they are still waiting for a confirmation from the province of Antique for the participation of its Binirayan Festival.

The Kasadyahan Contest is slated January 21. (PNA)
