P1.5M awaits winners of Dinagyang Festival events

Organizers of the 2012 Iloilo Dinagyang Festival has initially allotted some P1.5 million for prizes of major events and competitions lined up to add color to the celebration.

Former tourism regional director Edwin Trompeta who now chairs the Prizes/Trophies/Awards committee on Tuesday said that the prizes are still subject to change as he underscored the “big possibility that it will be increased.”

“Money is a limiting factor. This is still tentative until we get the final amount,” he said when asked as to why prizes are almost the same with those given during the 2011 celebration.

Of the said amount, the Ati-Ati competition has the biggest share at P510,000 and the Kasadyahan with P390,000 to be divided among the major and minor awards and consolation prizes.

Further, the Luces in the Sky was allotted P250,000; P190 for the Tambor, Trumpa, Martsa, Musika; Dressing Up Dagoy, P18,500; Dinagyang Ati Warrior, P57,600 and Ms Teen Dinagyang, P85,000.

Trompeta said that the in addition to cash prizes winners will also receive trophies. He added that they are still accepting suggestions on what design to be used for the trophies. (PNA)
